Item Open Access Lived Experiences of School Administrators During COVID-19 Lockdown Protocols(2024-09-20) Previl, DaniaRapid spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) became a global pandemic producing millions of deaths and hospitalizations. The problem is school administrators were unskilled for school operations to take place remotely during COVID-19. A gap in literature exists in the lived experiences of school administrators through COVID-19 in urban areas. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences and level of preparedness of urban school administrators during COVID-19 lockdown protocols. Research questions focused on school administrators transitioning to remote instruction with limited preparation and training. Questions included in the research instruments were guided by situational leadership theory and transformational leadership theory. A sample size of 15 urban public school administrators in a South Florida district were interviewed. Inclusion criteria encompassed working three or more years in school leadership and employment during COVID-19. Research instruments included online questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Data analysis was conducted using NVivo software. Colaizzi’s method was utilized for coding and emerging themes. This qualitative phenomenological study’s theoretical framework was underpinned by situational and transformational leadership theories to investigate the level of unpreparedness in school administrators during COVID-19 school closures. Key findings specified school administrators experienced challenging times during the transition from brick-and-mortar to virtual education.
